The 2025 West Regional Meeting seeks to cultivate collaboration between and training opportunities for physician scientists in training and those interested in the pipeline, especially those from the Western Region.

The purpose is to provide a reference and inspiration for trainees who may face similar obstacles along their training path. |

9:30 - 10:30 AM | Panel: Q&A with Research-Track Residency Program Directors | This session will feature a Q&A panel with directors of Research-Track Residency Programs, with the purpose being increased transparency about applicant expectations, program goals, and anticipated developments within each speaker's program. Q&A will be guided by a monitor with opportunities for attendees to ask questions. |

11:15 - 12:15 PM | Panel: Q&A with Physician Scientists in Industry | This session will be a guided discussion with 4-5 representatives from industry who can speak to the challenges and opportunities of working as a physician scientist outside of academia, and share advice from their own experience in their respective fields. Time will also be allotted for attendees to ask questions. |

Michael is broadly interested in how transcriptional dysregulation drives oncogenic transformation and progression. He presently studies this through the lens of biomolecular condensates in the lab of Shasha Chong. He aims to treat cancer at the bench and bedside, and is determined to work as a physician scientist in his home state of Hawaii. He is the eldest of four kids and loves exercising, music and video games.

Rana joined the Gradinaru lab at Caltech to advance gene therapy tools aimed at treating brain diseases, with a particular focus on neonatal neurodevelopmental disorders. Driven by a passion for translating laboratory breakthroughs into clinical applications, she strives to expand the range of curative therapies available to patients. In her free time she enjoys traveling and kitesurfing.
