Robert Baiocchi, MD, PhD

The Ohio State University

Dr. Robert Baiocchi's journey from aspiring primary care physician to pioneering cancer researcher began in 1990 at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute. His transformative encounters with immune-compromised patients affected by EBV-driven malignancies sparked a passion for translational science that shaped his entire career. Now a Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the Physician Scientist Training Programs in the Department of Medicine and College of Medicine at The Ohio State University, Dr. Baiocchi describes his path as "incredibly rewarding." As institutional PI for the NIH AIDS Malignancy Consortium and Section Head of the Lymphoma Disease Group, he dedicates himself to mentoring the next generation of physician scientists while advancing novel therapeutic strategies for patients with cancer and other inflammatory diseases. His laboratory bridges fundamental research with clinical applications, focusing on the epigenetics of B cell transformation, lymphoma therapeutics, and immune surveillance.

Chi Van Dang, MD, PhD

Johns Hopkins

From his early life as one of ten children in Saigon, Vietnam, to his current role as CEO & Scientific Director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Cancer Medicine at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Chi Van Dang's scientific journey reflects a profound dedication to understanding and fighting cancer. Following in the footsteps of his father, Vietnam's first neurosurgeon, Dr. Dang has pioneered groundbreaking research into how cancer cells utilize energy, making fundamental discoveries about the MYC gene's role in cellular metabolism. His innovative work spans leadership positions at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania's Abramson Cancer Center. As former Editor-in-Chief of Cancer Research and a member of the National Academy of Medicine, Dr. Dang continues to advance our understanding of cancer metabolism and champion promising new approaches like chronotherapy and dietary modulation.
